Location: New Windsor, NY

Tinkelman Architecture was selected by the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to design a new mixed use campus for their Order. The project replaces the existing buildings at 880 Jackson Avenue in New Windsor and consists of a complex nine new structures located at the southern end of their property. Included are a 10.500 square foot assisted living facility with a chapel, 10 bedrooms, communal living and dining rooms, a 5,000 square foot administration building, six homes of varying sizes, and a utility barn. The conceptual theme of the project is community, and the major spaces in all buildings are oriented towards the large greensward that forms the heart of the campus. The individual buildings are linked to each other by charred architectural elements and materials. It was the intention of Tinkelman Architecture to express in the architecture the simplicity and dignity of the Sisters way of life. To that end the buildings make use of simple, combinations of volumes; a limited palette of materials; and rigorous geometries that reference vernacular agricultural buildings. Shaker architecture, as well as contemporary ideas of space and form. The project will incorporate Green ideas, which reflect the Order's charter as well as Tinkelman Architecture's philosophy, which it seeks to include in all its commissions.
