LaGrange Farms

Residential Complex | LaGrange, NY

The LaGrange Farms at Overlook is a culmination of over a decade of design and planning between Tinkelman Architecture and Baxter Built. The master plan is focused around the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the existing Overlook barn, which defines the architectural language of the new multi-family community.

Two primary carriage house typologies are alternated in a circuit around the existing barn, framing a great lawn between the ring of structures. The lawn acts as a place of social congregation for the community, offering a variety of flora and tree coverings to soften the landscape.

Property History

Originally owned by the Ver Valin family the site consisted of over 400 acres of land on all sides of Overlook Road. George Ayrault came into possession of the land in 1859 and just two years later he built the Manor House, the red brick house which is still in existence today. He then converted the land to farmland to raise novelty cattle that competed in the Dutchess County Fair.
